Advanced Rules

These Pro rules control who can use a campaign and how many preorder units can be bought. They supplement the product and schedule conditions in Targeting & Scheduling; they do not replace the need for an active campaign.

Prevent mixed carts

Open Preorders → Settings → Pro Features, switch on Mixed-cart prevention, and save. When a shopper already has a preorder in the cart, adding a regular item is blocked with an explanatory notice. The reverse is also blocked: a shopper with a regular item must complete that order or remove it before adding a preorder. This rule is off by default and is useful when preorders ship separately from available products.

The check runs when an item is added to the cart. Test both add-to-cart orders with your theme and checkout before enabling it on a live store.

Limit total preorder units

Open the product in Products → All Products, select its Inventory tab, enter a non-zero Preorder limit, and update the product. The limit applies to units sold on preorder for that product, across orders and variations. Enter 0 for unlimited preorders. When no units are left, the product shows as Out of stock (or Notify me, with a back-in-stock campaign) until units are returned. The quantity box stops at the units left, and trying to add more — on the product page, by changing the quantity in the cart, or at checkout — shows a notice with how many remain.

A unit counts as soon as its order is placed, so an unpaid order holds its place. If the order fails, is cancelled or is refunded, its units go back to the allowance automatically; if it is later revived (for example a failed payment retried), they are counted again. With WooCommerce's Hold stock setting on, unpaid orders are cancelled after that time and free their units.

This limit is set per product and never resets on its own. For a per-campaign limit that starts again each time a product comes back in stock, use Stop taking preorders after a set number on the campaign's Targeting tab.

Restrict by customer role

Under Preorders → Settings → Pro Features, enable B2B role restriction, choose the permitted roles in Search roles…, and save. Customers without a selected role see the product's normal WooCommerce behaviour instead of the plugin's preorder mode. Choose Guest as well if logged-out customers should see the preorder. Leaving the role list empty applies no restriction, even when the toggle is on.

This is a store-wide rule, not a setting for one campaign. Check the product page while signed in as an allowed role, a disallowed role, and a guest before launch.

Restrict by country

Enable Region targeting in the same Pro Features tab, select the permitted countries, and save. The plugin checks the customer's WooCommerce billing country first, then the shipping country if billing is empty. If neither is known yet, it leaves the campaign behaviour visible rather than guessing that the shopper is outside the allowed region. An empty country list also applies no restriction.

Because the country may not be known on a guest's first product-page visit, do not treat this storefront rule as a substitute for WooCommerce's checkout shipping and selling-location settings. Test with customer addresses inside and outside the permitted countries.

Automatically tag product status

Enable Auto-tag products under Preorders → Settings → Pro Features and save. Pro assigns a private Preorder status (wepo_status) term based on each product's active mode: preorder, backorder, or back-in-stock. The Preorder status column in Products → All Products shows the result. This does not add a public product tag to your storefront.

The plugin backfills existing products when you first enable the option and re-tags the catalogue after campaign changes. That work runs in background batches, so a large catalogue may not update immediately. Check WooCommerce → Status → Scheduled Actions if the column remains stale. Switching the option off stops future syncing; it does not immediately clear previously assigned terms.

Next Steps

Set up the underlying Preorder or Back in Stock campaign, then use Targeting & Scheduling to narrow its products and dates. Return to Pro Features for deposits, widgets, Coming Soon and analytics.
